Eatman Says: Let's Make a Big Splash, Cowboys!

Hey there, folks! So, you know how it is, right? We were all crossing our fingers for some major shake-up, hoping the Cowboys would pull off something big. But, truth be told, it's looking like we won't see any changes at the quarterback spot or in the coaching department.

Sure, it was a bummer to see the Cowboys take a hit at home during the playoffs from a team that barely made it to the postseason. But hold your horses, 'cause the word on the street is they're sticking with Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott for the 2024 season.

Now, my take on this? It kinda feels like the sensible move. Why, you ask? Well, I'm all about playing the odds. You want a team that can go toe-to-toe at the top, right?

Yeah, I get it. The playoff record isn't stellar. But seriously, show me a team that didn't make it to the playoffs in the first place and still clinched a postseason win. It's like trying to find comfort in just making it to the tournament. No, sir! What I mean is, give me a coach who's consistently knocking on that playoff door. Trust me, one of these days, the Cowboys will slam it wide open.

Now, I'm all for keeping things intact for another year – but only if there's a chance to make a splash somewhere. Got it? Good.

So, McCarthy stays as head coach, Dak remains the quarterback. I'm cool with that. Well, Dak's cap number is a bit of a puzzle. $59 million is no joke, but the Cowboys need to crack that code.

Here's the thing – it's not about the head coach or the QB. Who knows, maybe it's a defensive coordinator, like Dan Quinn eyeing other head-coaching gigs?

But mark my words, the Cowboys need to shake things up on this roster. Fans want it, critics want something to chew on, and, most importantly, the roster needs it.

No offense to Montell Jordan, but "This Is How We Do It" needs a remix – at least for this season. And by that, I mean free agency.

Last year's moves with Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore were a good start. Low-risk, high-reward, you know? Do it again, but crank it up a notch. Excite the fan base, energize the team. Bring in some players who can turn the game around.

Okay, free agency doesn't kick in until March, and most potential helpers are tied up with other teams. But hey, there are players out there to snag, either through free agency or trades.

Now, the Cowboys are a bit behind in the draft, missing a few picks. No worries, get creative! This is the year to think outside the box.

Go grab a player in the final year of a contract, someone who made a Pro Bowl this year. Add a running back who's not just good but was killing it last season.

When the big names pop up on the free-agency boards, do everything to snag them. Step out of the comfort zone, Cowboys! 'Cause let's face it, there's nothing comfy about this situation.

The Cowboys had a rough finish last season, and there's not much to cheer about. Except maybe Trevon Diggs returning, but other than that, it's a bit thin. A lackluster 2023 draft class doesn't help either.

Drafting at No. 24 this year with a few rounds without picks – not ideal. If they don't shake things up in free agency, getting over the hump will be a steep climb.

Quarterback and head coach are crucial, but it seems the Cowboys are keeping it steady there. Dak hasn't spoken yet, but McCarthy's saying, "We've got work to do."

And that work, my friends, should start with making some cannonball-sized splashes with this roster. Let's make it happen!
